7-Zip is really fast! What else could you ask for? Oh, yeah it also has a high compression ratio for packing files, it unpacks every file archive you've ever heard of and it runs on Windows. It runs circles around WinZip and is built into the right click of your explorer so you can use it just as simply as you use WinZip. If you find yourself needing to unpack tars or gzips you will find this app and you will love it like everyone does!

FileZilla is fast! There is both a client application and a server as well. With both ends of the spectrum covered it makes good sense to use FileZilla as a complete FTP package. I have been using the client application for quite some time and it has never let me down. It is an actively maintained project with regular security updates and version releases. I recommend this FTP client!

PDT is Zend's PHP plugin for the Eclipse IDE. Zend is one of the largest contributor to PHP and of course they practically wrote the book on PHP optimizations. That being said, it seems the natural choice for PHP development. I use it exclusively although I have tried other PHP IDEs. Although it's lacking in code generation the code completion is good and of course it's Eclipse so why wouldn't you be using it?

I love this little gem. It's fairly simple to set with just a couple of SWCs and a few lines of code. Edit your apps on the fly, get detailed trace statements and walk through your code tree all in one package. It's written on the Adobe AIR platform, so if your a Flex/AIR developer it is pretty simple to add your own customizations to it. Try it, you'll love it! (check out this intro screencast to get it set up quick gotoandlearn.com/play... )

Code::Blocks is easy to setup and full of features. With Code::Blocks you can develop C++ on any platform you need. It has a wizard that will set up almost any C++ project you could ever want including DirectX, OpenGL, WIN32 Console, GTK the list just goes on and on! If you work with Visual Studios then you will find Code::Blocks easy to migrate to although it is a little more involved to set up. It's also a plugin framework, so you can customize it to your hearts content! Love the 'Blocks!
